NOTICING

A Family Adventure

A closer look at the world. A different way to spend time together.

A whole little world is waiting to be discovered. In the things growing around us. In the tiny creatures we rarely stop to notice. In the changes that happen slowly, and the details we might otherwise miss.

NOTICING invites children and their grown-ups to explore that world together. Four hands-on encounters bring together an original illustrated story, things to investigate, plant, build and create, and thoughtful invitations to connect. With developmental opportunities woven into the play and something meaningful for the grown-up, too.

Recommended ages 4–8

About Founding Families

Four hands-on experiences

There is so much to discover when we look a little closer.

01

Look Closely

How much can you discover when you slow down and take a closer look?

It begins with three little discoveries: a pebble, a flower and a feather. Things that might seem ordinary until someone takes a closer look.

With a magnifying glass, discovery pouch and specimen stickers, your child can investigate their colours, shapes, textures and tiny details. Then the adventure can continue outdoors, where familiar places become full of interesting things to observe.

Perhaps you'll notice something your child missed. Perhaps they'll discover something you've never noticed before. And perhaps the most interesting part will be showing each other what you've found.

Opportunities to practiseObservation · attention · sensory exploration · comparison · curiosity

02

Meet the Tiny World

A whole world of little lives, just waiting to be discovered.

Tiny creatures have extraordinary details. Wings, legs, patterns, shapes and colours that become much more interesting when we take the time to look.

With four insect puzzles, children can explore these details through hands-on making and discovery. Then there's an opportunity to take that curiosity outdoors.

What might you recognise? What differences do you notice? What questions does your child ask that you hadn't considered?

The experience combines making, observation and the excitement of discovering something in the world around you.

Opportunities to practiseVisual discrimination · spatial thinking · coordination · problem-solving · curiosity

03

Notice Growth

Some of the most interesting things take time.

A little planter. Some seeds. Something wonderful to begin.

Children can decorate their planter, prepare the growing medium and plant their seeds. And then comes the part that can't be hurried. Waiting. Wondering. Checking again.

Some days something might have changed. Other days, almost nothing seems different.

There's something lovely about creating something together and having a reason to keep returning to it. Watching what changes, caring for what is growing, and discovering that not everything happens on our timetable.

Opportunities to practiseCoordination · sequencing · observation · care · patience · attention over time

04

Build a Little Birdhouse

Something to build. Something to create. Something to make your own.

A collection of wooden pieces becomes a little birdhouse. There are shapes to understand, pieces to fit together and creative decisions to make.

Perhaps your child has a very clear idea of what it should look like. Perhaps you'll have completely different ideas. There are colours to choose, paint to mix, details to add and opportunities to make something together.

And sometimes, things don't turn out quite the way we imagined. That can be interesting, too.

When it's finished and completely dry, the little birdhouse becomes something to keep and enjoy — a reminder of what you've created together.

Opportunities to practiseCoordination · spatial thinking · creativity · planning · decision-making · shared problem-solving

Numbered for a suggested journey, not a required order.

The story inside the experience

Meet The Noticing Garden.

An original illustrated picture book set in an ordinary South African garden — full of small details and quiet surprises for anyone willing to look.

It's a companion to the experience, to read whenever you like: before, during, after, or again and again. Not a stage you have to complete first. Not an instruction manual.

The little things between you

Sometimes one good question is enough.

Sixteen Connection Cards offer questions and affirmations to share. Some are for both of you to answer. Some are for your child to answer while you listen.

They're not a test. They're not therapy. Just somewhere for a conversation to begin.

Family Practice

And what happens when the adventure is over?

The Family Practice invites you to keep noticing — around you, within you and about another person. There's no schedule to keep and nothing anyone has to share.

And there's something for you, too

What might you discover along the way?

Sometimes our instinct is to answer. To help. Or to look past the things that feel familiar.

What happens when you ask what they see before explaining what you see?

What surprises you?

What do you notice about yourself when something goes differently than planned?

None of this is an instruction, or an assessment. Just an invitation.

What did you notice about them?
What did you notice about yourself?

A whole little world

Everything that makes up the experience.
